Academy Update: May 10
FRISCO, Texas – The FC Dallas Academy teams traveled south to face the Houston Dynamo in a battle between the two Texas-based MLS clubs in the Development Academy this weekend. The teams returned to Dallas with split decisions as the U-18s earned a 1-0 win and the U-16s suffered a last-minute 2-1 loss to their MLS rivals.
The lone goal for the U-18s on the weekend came in the 61st minute after forward Victor Pinal earned a penalty kick after being tripped in the Dynamo box. Home Grown midfielder Bryan Leyva converted the kick from the spot to clinch the victory for FC Dallas. The U-18s remain in second place in the Texas Division behind Lonestar SC. FCD are three points behind Lonestar, but the division leaders have played two more games than FCD.
The U-16s scored the first goal of their match against the Dynamo thanks to forward Bobby Edet, but Houston was able to tie the game just before the end of the half. The match appeared to be heading toward a 1-1 draw until the final minute of regulation, when the Dynamo were awarded a penalty kick which they converted to earn the 2-1 victory. With the loss the U-16s dropped a spot in the divisional standings to sixth place with five games remaining in the Academy season.
The FC Dallas Academy squads will return to the Pizza Hut Park fields this Sunday, May 15 when they play host to the Texas Rush Academy teams. The U-18s are scheduled to kick off at 2:00 p.m. on Field 4 and the U-16s play on the same field following that match at 4:30 p.m.
